Dr Sumitra Bentur

Namaste,
I am Dr Sumitra Bentur, an Ayurvedic doctor and a Yoga therapist. A guide on your health journey.

I incorporate ayurvedic principles into my yoga teachings and vice versa, this gives me an edge to bring together various healing aspects with a holistic approach, focused on integrating herbs, yoga, stress management, a healthy diet and lifestyle to promote and sustain one’s health.

My therapeutic yoga classes are structured based on

  • individual needs;
  • understanding their doshas and imbalances, if any;
  • paying attention to any specific ailments;
  • combining ayurvedic principles with appropriate asana, kriyas [yogic detox], pranayama and Dhyana;  For example a student who is predominantly of Vāta constitution, the yoga session is designed on static and grounding practices. For Pitta types, practices that are slow and gentle, calming to mind are incorporated. For kapha types a more challenging, energizing practices are planned.

Similarly my Ayurvedic treatment protocols for patients are structured around

  • herbal compounds;
  • general dietary do and don’ts;
  • lifestyle advices including yogic practices specific to their health issues;
  • Subsequently I review, plan and counsel patients/clients to educate on
    further improving their health.

“Prevention is better than cure” I am zealous about this concept. So my general classes for someone who is healthy, is focused on protecting, promoting, and maintaining health and well-being.

I also educate people through various workshops, retreats and lecture sessions, related to yoga or ayurveda to stay healthy. I have had the pleasure to do few international workshop at Canada and few inland courses where I trained the therapists, held at Goa and Delhi.

I have led many Corporate stress management workshops at workplace, teaching the corporate world the skills they need to perform effectively under high pressure.

On my personal life journey Yoga and Ayurveda have helped me cultivate higher states of health and awareness. I have worked through my own respiratory problems & learnt to be resilient each time life jolts me.

I relish reading, words have energy that can heal and nurture. The insights that rich poetry and prose bring are deep. The prophet by Khalil Gibran is my favourite book. And yes I write too, both academic and bit of poetry and prose. Indulge in sporadic painting and yoga photography!

Reach me for yoga classes or Ayurveda consultations, let me guide you on your health journey.
